I would recommend "The United States of Jihad" by Peter Bergen to everyone with even a slight interest in this topic. It was published just last year and really brings into focus what is happening globally with a "Leaderless Jihad", self-radicalization with the internet, and the role ISIS and now to a lesser
extent Al Qaeda play through various social media forums.
Global Jihad has evolved. 15 years ago it was highly structured, insulated, and "dark". Nor anymore, and this is only going to expand and expand until people in the west take stock of what's happening, how it's happening, and why. The topic shouldn't be taboo.
