I think that these 2 sarcophagi being the only ones without any inscriptions is a very puzzling anomaly. (Are there any other examples of this in AE history?) I agree w/ you here, "it seems we are no nearer to resolving
this mystery.
I had mentioned on another post here that maybe each King had his choice of design/style, and materials used, etc. for his box. Today, we have our choice of steel, copper, etc. exterior, and choice of inner lining color, material, etc.....if we can afford it, anyway.
