I have no reason to doubt that G1 was intact in the times of Herodotus and Diodorus Siculus.
What is questionable is whether, or not, 70 ton blocks can be lifted hundreds of feet in the air using small planks of wood. But, if a block can be lifted one inch then it can be lifted a hundred feet or more. However, manoeuvring it into place would prove to be an entirely different matter.
