The ancient Romans were indeed adepts at hardstone quarrying despite the vapid protestations of those of a queer disposition who, for reasons yet to be explained, somehow refuse to acknowledge what is distinctly before their glazed-over eyeballs.
Below is an abandoned block of goodly tonnage of tonalite gneiss at Mons Claudianus showing traces of wedgeholes and bottom chiselling. I consider this be hard (very hard) evidence of Roman technology which, if accepted, may hopefully, keep this thread on track.
But, if not, as some of my Roman friends are wont to say. "Sic vita est."
