Well yes the romans would have had to have very good reason to view the egyptian granite as far superior to the superior quality native granite abundant in Italy, for them to justify going to all of the trouble, expense and risk of transporting egyptian granite across the Mediterranean by sea.
Do we have evidence that the egyptian granite was viewed as superior by the Romans? Or is this speculation?
If not why are they carving granite thousands of miles away from it's intended destination?
