No new thoughts. It’s all on here somewhere. I used to think that the iron went back that far, but after having read all of the followups in (I think it was) Historical Metallurgy, the piece seems more consistent with medieval manufacture.
It was only Hill witnessed the discovery. The others made judgements based on what he told them. Perring’s statement in particular is guarded and conditional.
