Contrary to Egyptological opinion this process is most probably ongoing but
not the result of internal moisture. It is far more likely to be the result of
more two acre feet of water per decade striking the denuded pyramid above the chambers. Most moisture from visitors is not going to penetrate the
stone or have any effect.
I would expect things weritten on vertical surfaces to be less affected since
gravity will tend to pull the water down through the stone rather than out the
sides.
