Indeed there does seem to be red paint on the jointing plaster..
Also if you take a look at the Collette Dowell photographs , there seems to be patches of a light brown residue on the surface of the limestone. This residue seems to have formed within the chisel marks. The glyphs appear to be painted on top of the residue.
We suspect that..
The cartouche "frame" was painted anti-clockwise from the masonry joint .
The cartouche frame was painted after the two quail/snake/disc
The Khufu glyphs were painted using a long soft paint brush. Similar to Sable.
The "mason" marks were made with a much shorter brush or even a rigid stick..
What did the AE paint with???
