Someone brought your post to my attention. I had stopped following this story in any detail.
Thanks for the information about Jan Gartig, which is intrinsically plausible and gives a fuller picture of what happened.
Stefan Erdmann’s denials put me in mind (such is my generation) of the words of Mandy Rice-Davies — but, in fairness, control of access to these chambers was evidently so lax that an indeterminate number of others must join him as suspects. I doubt that we’ll ever find out with certainty who did it, bar someone owning up, which seems profoundly unlikely now.
Someone has done what I’ve expected for a long time someone to do. As I look at the damage, I think that it could have been worse.
I’m not sure what I can actually do about any of this. I can only hope that the forthcoming prosecution might bring some clarity (rather than obscurity) to the issue.
