I don't think you're too far off. Your interpretation of the king's chamber is interesting for me because I believe the pyramid was considered the "boat of re". I believe the stones were originally part of the infrastructure for constructing the pyramid and there is no clear reason they wouldn't have removed them due to their monetary value. I have difficulty with ascribing "religious" motives to them though and would suspect that if the reasons weren't strictly utilitarian than the motive was "ritualistic" moreso than religious.
I believe there is a great deal more granite in the pyramid that isn't visible. Most of these others will be shaped on all six sides and once composed the "Lake of the Jackal". These visible ones composed the Nurse Canal.
