People didn't have photo shop in the 'ancient times' but they had imaginations. They could make stories up. So, same humans, same problem. They were revered in past, crazy now, why? Hoaxes can be in any time period.
Name a few famous people? Who is that famous rich guy, who is so famed from his UFO encounters?
Government agenda? Like false flag ops?
The main reason why the secret got started was that no one in the 40's wanted to come onto TV (including the Pres) and announce. "We have discovered an unknown intelligent, um 'species'. That is sort of patrolling the skies, um here and there. We don't know what they want, why they are here. We don't know if they are peaceful or friendly...etc, etc." The longer you go on the worse it sounds.
Since then we've invested billions in learning more and more. So much so that it practically created an industry. An industry large enough that most of it didn't even know the true nature of what it was dealing with. So the lie became the underlying pin of this industry. That's when it became precious, protected, ridiculed.
So I ask, why ridiculed now, and not in ancient past?
