AS: Ya, and you think the notion that they were actual mortuary complexes for god kings was ludicrous!
SC: Yes, because the evidence does not support the contention. The AEs buried their dead in underground pits, in rock-cut tombs, in shaft-tombs and in mastabas. They did not need another type of burial structure. The first rule of a successful burial as an AE king is to ensure that your burial is permanent ergo you do not mark the location of the grave. Khufu well understood this basic principle since he buried his own mother in an unmarked shaft-tomb that was only discovered by accident some 4,500 years after she was buried. The pyramid as a tomb would have gone against everything Khufu understood about burial and which he did for his own mother. You simply do not advertise the whereabouts of your tomb.
However, as a Recovery Vault to ensure the rebirth of the AE civilisation after any potential devastating disaster, BIG is precisely what you want. You WANT to advertise the whereabouts of the recovery vault because you want people to find it (sooner rather than later). Unlike mastaba tombs of the period, there are no names on any of the so-called sarcophagi in any early pyramid, an essential requirement for the king's ba to be able to find the tomb. It wasn't done because it wasn't the king's tomb.
There are ancient texts aplenty that tell how the 'sky fell'. There is scientific evidence of sudden, rapid and devastating climate change (the consequence of a rapid Earth axis wobble) in the Near East at the commencement of the pyramid-building age. There is scientific evidence also of the Earth's axis being tilted at around 26.5 degrees around this time, an angle that modern science insists could not possibly ever have been. There is scientific evidence of a massive asteroid collision in the Near East (and in South America) around this period. We have Arab texts purportedly describing such an event and telling us that this was the reason for the pyramids' construction. We have images below the Step Pyramid at Saqqara showing how the sky is being held up and stabilised with the use of a series of Djed Pillars. We have recovered tens of thousands of artefacts (recovery goods) from the early pyramids.
But not a single AE king.
