To prevent untruths becoming taken as true facts.
"They are very interesting in themselves are they not?"
Qualified yes! They do, of course, illustrate the flexibility, creativity and imagination for which the evolved human brain has the capacity.
"The basis of an enquiring and fertile mind."
Yes, definitely; but the inquiring mind should not confine itself to the less conventional ideas.
