I agree with you 100%! In my travels throughout Egypt, many (although not all) Arab-Egyptians consider Pharoanic civilization as 'Pagan'. In fact back in the early 90's there was some radical Sheik that was calling for the attack on all Pharoanic sites because of how it is 'perceived' by many Egyptian-Arabs as being pagan.
On my travels throughout Egypt, I have heard 'some' Arabs say some of the most obscurd things about AE culture. And we all have seen how some of the sites have been treated, unguarded, unmanaged, etc. I will never forget when I first went to the GP fields ihn 98, the eastside of GP looked like a garbage dump! I was shocked! Garbage was everywhere! But when I went to some of the oldd beautiful muslem mosques there throughout Egygt, they were immaculately clean and guarded.
So yes I think you make a very valid point. Pharoanic culture to many Egyptian Arabs (and other Arabs around the world) who now rule Egypt - is for them nothing but revenue dollars brought in by tourism for the country. And many do 'not' see Pharoanic culture as being a cultural legacy of theirs- and thats because its not. I witnessed this all throughout Egypt.
