I couldn't agree more with this. I stopped reading Sci fi 'in the main' well over 20 years ago for just this reason.
that and the fat that Hollywood was busy making reality out of the "Amazing Adventures" I had been having in my mind's eye for years.
now every book you pick up relies on Deus ex Machina at some point.
so I delved into history, which had been my passion well before my teen years. and of course there's very little Good Hi-Fi....so
