"It doesn't take a creator"
"We did it ourselves."
My point is, that with our advance in science and technology, that we are DESIGNING changes in various species, including our own; is this simple 'evolution' alone, or are we essentially on our way to becoming somewhat God-like 'creators' ourselves?
(Uh-oh, don't let the Vatican hear that! Or American Southern Baptists, either!!)
Where does purely natural evolution end, and active, interventionist design begin? You state that you and your children would have (or at least, the odds were in favor) died during birth 100 years ago, but you succeeded in giving birth, and surviving it. Where goes the credit? Accidental mutation, reactive evolution, or technical/scientiffic development, and their attendant 'creations'?
We are reaching the ability to move/manipulate individual atoms, and even subatomic particles will probably follow; this would lead to the ability for humans design/construct/create on such a scale. We are also advancing by leaps and bounds in machine-computing power and artificial intelligence...at some point, it is realistic that we will, ourselves, create intelligent, even sentient machine 'life'; what then will we be? Simply another link in evolution (hopefully, we will not be 'missing link'), or designers/creators?
'We did it ourselves'...WE; is that natural, responsive evolution, or was it done by OUR DECISION, and our DESIGNS? Aye, there's the rub!
