It should be pointed out that Hawass is pumping vast quantities of water from under the Sphinx since about 2013. This is from an elevation only a little higher than the bottom of the Osiris Shaft and only 400' away. This is causing an inflow of ground water and sea water apparently. But there should still be some carbonation in this water.

I believe it is almost certainly CO2 causing this bubbling. Certainly carbonated aquifers are not in the least unusual.
