The fact is that if you multiply volume by the density and divide by the weight of visible stones you get about 2 1/2 million. There is simply no evidence to suggest this number is far off. There is a tiny little rise at the base of the pyramid which made it harder to lift stones up but this rise might bring the number of stones down to about 2 1/4 million stones.
Of course there are about 100,000 stones missing above the heat sink under the NE corner so my best estimate is 2,200,000 stones. This is plus or minus 150,000 stones and it's possible new data could affect this.
