The problem is interpretation of evidence. they have a teflon paradigm where all knowledge refuses to stick to it. So knowledge is bolted, screwed, and riveted onto a paradigm without foundation. All that needs to be done is to disconnect the knowledge from the paradigm and find a new one to which data prefer to stick.
This is simple enough since all the heavy lifting has been completed. They lifted it all up and built an upside down pyramid. It is resting on a few failed assumption. Fixing it is virtually exothermic and merely requires a little shuffling and rewriting the books. It's hardly the end of the world as we know it. It's just the unknown we've always stumbled into. Now we can stumble into the future secure in the knowledge that our ancestors might not have been so ignorant and superstitious as we once believed. This might give us some solace to know that if they could build the pyramids with ancient knowledge and tools there are almost no limitations to modern science armed with the knowledge that there are other ways to acquire and manifest knowledge. We may be far more competent and capable as a result.
Ignorance and superstition are never assets.
