Hi Cladking,
The English hold the record for the longest rope, nearly a mile long, as I recall. My method is adaptable to multiple ropes, side by side, helping to reduce stain on each rope. Ropes can have loops in each end, which allows them to be daisy chained.
The empty platform carriage is made of dried wood. It would not weigh that much, and additionally it is on an incline plane, reducing it's overall weight. If you like, there was no post/pulley. 12 separate men released it back down the face, hand over hand? Hand over hand would reduce the rope lengths needed considerably.
Correct?
