"Bumpkin" is just a word. I use it as a short hand way of saying it is widely believed by EVERY Egyptologists and MOST living people that the ancient Egyptians were moribund, highly superstitious, and wholly ignorant of modern science and technology. If a modern person fit these characteristics "Bumpkin" would be about the NICEST thing anyone would call him.
If a modern person believed in magic and gods and sounded like a goofball when he spoke people would call him far worse things than "bumpkin".
I'm not saying Egyptologists don't respect the "bumpkins", I'm saying they are describing people who walked upside down in excrement and corpse drippings and dragged tombs up ramps for people who lived forever!!!!. What word would have me use? I could change. If I can accept "inclined plane technology' then I can accept anything unless it takes a long time to type. Frankly, I'd use "Homo Sapiens" except everyone would misunderstand because they don't know we are a new species; Homo Omnisciencis.
"Homo Sapiens" would be ideal since it's devoid of connotation (other than a belief in "evolution"), but everyone would miss the point.

Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
