The builders did not want two holes in the chamber, but needed two shafts for the air while people working inside. The solution was, made the blocks like a drawer, pulled a feet out, then the air could flow in and out, when all the job had finished, pushed back the blocks. This is why the end of the shafts(at the chamber) was only a not-so-thick layer.
When the job in the QC were finished, no people needed to go there, no more air shaft was needed, so no need to extend the air shaft to reach outside.
When people working in the chamber, the pyramid was built up(or inside out) layer by layer, when it was up to the upper end of the shafts, all the job for the chamber or surroundings were finished, so the builders decided to close the shafts. So they left the door there closed, and wrote down somethings. And left the only writings and cooper pieces that we are sure they were left by the builder...not on prupose.
One thing can be examined to support(not a proof) my theory, is to see the sizes of hook and rings, to see if they match each other?
