I don't defend them, but IMO, it's unnecessary to dismiss or condemn. For example, there are many very compelling phenomenal reports of UFO's that seem interesting, but are isolated encounters. Upon further examination, we find we've reached a dead end. There isn't enough detail to clarify further what the UFO is physically, where it came from, and where it's going. Tying the reports to theories of extraterrestrial origins for the UFO or supposed pilot and crew is easy enough to do--but impossible to test.

Going through that over and over for each seemingly interesting UFO report is lots of work--and becomes boring after awhile. What seemed interesting at first, seems less so with each dead end. We're left with lots of blue sky thinking that might lead somewhere some day--but not now.

For me, blue sky thinking is always OK, sometimes fun. But that's it.

It is what it is. No need to discredit or debunk. It's not going anywhere.
