Not really from the original woodcarving (made by a non witness according to eye witness accounts) you quoted:
Nearly exactly description of a Sundog condition. Indicative of very moist very cold high cloud containing ice crystals . This likely to create considerable static electricity in the atmosphere which can charge lower atmosphere. Even to the extent that some people see discharges from their fingertips an example
This could easily give rise to the phenomena known as ball lightning Watch magic battling balls as again described:
"In between these globes there were visible a few blood-red crosses, between which there were blood-red strips, becoming thicker to the rear and in the front malleable like the rods of reed-grass, which were intermingled, among them two big rods, one on the right, the other to the left, and within the small and big rods there were three, also four and more globes. These all started to fight among themselves, so that the globes, which were first in the sun, flew out to the ones standing on both sides, thereafter, the globes standing outside the sun, in the small and large rods, flew into the sun. Besides the globes flew back and forth among themselves and fought vehemently with each other for over an hour. And when the conflict in and again out of the sun was most intense, they became fatigued to such an extent that they all, as said above, fell from the sun down upon the earth 'as if they all burned' and they then wasted away on the earth with immense smoke. After all this there was something like a black spear, very long and thick, sighted; the shaft pointed to the east, the point pointed west."
Then there are the "rods of reed grass" resembling very much like St Elmos Fire Please watch! Depending on gases in the atmosphere some will glow red.
Of course there are many accounts of ball lightning exploding on the ground causing destruction and fire (smoke)

In these days of top secret industrial military complexes I think it would be mandatory defence response to react to any Unidentified Flying Object
However I am with you on this one.;-)
This is most likely an medieval account of a alien spaceship war almost certainly between intergalactic confederation of pirates who were attempting a robbery of all the cargo of gold headed back to Planet X. Z Sitchin studied (amateur)such and after he found his own superior interpretation of cuneiform. the ancient texts he read confirmed to many that such has been happening many many millennia , (several Millenia BCE).
Don't be fooled Darth Vader had nothing to do with it! This because he wasn't even born yet in 1561, more likely that evil emperor bloke , he lived as a dark jedi for thousands of years and would have only been in his prime in 1561! So it could been him!?
You know it makes sense!? ;-)

Not really from the original woodcarving (made by a non witness according to eye witness accounts) you quoted:
Quote
In the morning of April 14, 1561, at daybreak, between 4 and 5 a.m., a dreadful apparition occurred on the sun, and then this was seen in Nuremberg in the city, before the gates and in the country – by many men and women. At first there appeared in the middle of the sun two blood-red semi-circular arcs, just like the moon in its last quarter...
