First of all due to the fine structure of the material that its made from means in its present form it could not have had a useable utilitarian domestic use that puts it under pressure, therefore its possible that this object is the prototype for a much stronger finished design , probably made of copper .
So if there was a much stronger version of the same design then two possible uses come to mind.

2. When made from copper, A Nile flow meter, placed at a specific angle close to the bottom of the Nile that would change the speed of its rotation according to the flow of colder water that runs faster below the warmer water above , this colder water is the prelude to the annual floods , it then gives them advanced warning of this annual flood.
