Hello Mj

Quote 'Of particular concern here are Smyth’s tables of the lengths of the slots\holes and their spacing (pages 80 and 81) – ignore them (and indeed the rest of the Grand Gallery chapter) at your peril…'

I wish you would just give us the info. I have never read Smyth's inheritance but I have read his 'The Great Pyramid' Smyth was the Astronomer Royal for Scotland so pretty smart guy. I think but cant put my finger on it that he did have a problem with some of his measuring tapes slightly out?? Don't quote me anyway his thoughts on the Gallery quite unique and he picked up the fact a wooden platform covered part of the slope over the hole.

Now Petrie.

Grand Gallery terrific especially measurement and 2 in particular.

1. p.22 re Queens chamber "The results for the levels are thus, reckoning from the mean door of the gallery at 1546.8 from the beginning of ascending passage:-"

This length is 75 Royal cubits and gives the best value for the Royal cubit 1546.8 / 75 = 20.624 inches. Some may know I have always suggested 20.625 inches as the most likely value for the Royal cubit. And so the number we are looking at is 20.625 x 75 = 1546.875 inches.

2. The full length of the Gallery to the face of the great step at the southern end = 1815.5 inches or 88 Royal cubits.

Note 20.625 x 88 = 1815 inches exactly 151.25 feet or twice the base 75.625 imperial feet.

It should also be noted as I have suggested in the past longer than the actual base of the pyramid 9068.8 inches 755.73333 feet.

But it does indeed agree with a system of weights and measure that encase the pyramid.

Yes MJ the gallery is worth it's weight in measure.

Jim
