I believe the Great Pyramid has evolved over thousands of years.
The subterranean chamber is the primary reason it exists, accessed through the mound that originally marked the location, the primeval mound of Zep Tepi. The Well Shaft was the entry point to this chamber, circa 12500 years ago, a natural fissure in the mound.
The purpose of the subterranean chamber was to initiate candidates under the influence of DMT (acacia) into a rebirth - they 'died' and rose again. Death handicaps us as a species. No other organism lives its life in this terrible shadow. To die and be born again is an antidote to this fear.
Gradually, the location was built upon with ever more elaborate structures that served to create chambers in which an initiation ceremony that actually mirrored the death of the individual, as documented in the Book of Coming Forth by Day, took place.
The candidate would be prepared at some distant location then journey down the Nile at night in a boat to Giza to 'die'. They would alight at the Sphinx and undergo cleansing rites before entering the Great Pyramid. They would descend into the subterranean chamber and were given DMT. The candidate then played out the prelude to 'death', climbing the Well Shaft, meeting monsters and gods on their way (priests dressed up in costumes and masks), until they found the 'Queen's Chamber'.
This chamber was used to prepare the candidate for their 'death' in the 'King's Chamber'. So prepared, the candidate then walked up the 'Grand Gallery', lined on either side by priests in costume who asked the 42 negative confessions.
Once in the King's Chamber, the candidate lay floating in a water-filled 'sarcophagus', which was sealed with a stone lid. Unknown to the candidate, there was a small chink taken out of this flotation tank so fresh air could enter via the chamber's ventilation shafts. Priests then ceremonially sealed the chamber with the portcullis stones and the candidate spent three days in an altered state, able to journey into realms of knowledge.
Should they survive, and not all did, the candidate would be rescued from their tomb (rolling away the stone) and stagger into sunlight, reborn and remade with wisdom to teach. Our species' greatest fear has been conquered.
The pyramid we see today is a shell built to protect a sacred spot, much as some would encase the Vatican in bubble wrap if an asteroid was predicted to hit the Earth.
The Great Pyramid, ultimately, is not a power plant, weapon or water pump; it's a theatre to turn men and women into gods and goddesses.
Not a theory, or even a hypothesis - more a hunch.
