I am sure you understand the point well enough. While some churches, chapels, abbeys and so on may have crypts for the deceased, these buidings are conceived and built primarily as places of religious worship and various other religious ceremonies, baptisms, weddings, funerals and so on. These buildings are not conceived for the primary function of burial.
With the pyramid as an instrument not of death but of life and rebirth (for the earth/kingdom), why wouldn't high-ranking people of that time not want to be buried close to such an edifice?
