Hi Jim
this is what i posted to helen at the time, it led me to investigate the Scottish and Welsh systems but the unit Helen discovered could quite easily be 5940 base on her 1.814 metres figure as is is more like 5950.
i never considered this at the time but she refers to the Scts Mile in her work.
Hi Helen
I have had a closer look at this and it is another system that exactly aligns with the UK mile. It gives another insight into he interpretation of the UK system in that 32 is flagged as a key number.
The Scottish system is 5920/320 = 18.5
The UK is 5280/320 = 16.5 the rod.
If we convert it using 1000/28 inverted we get 165.76 and the unit in this system is 5.6 and this gives 29.6 so probably of astronomical significance.
Dividing by 80 gives 74 feet as opposed to the 66 feet UK chain. this is 888 inches dividing by 4 gives on Wiki one scottish rod or fall or 6 ells.
So the systems are virtually identical.
Apologies if 5.6 is confusing but the suggestion is that 13000 English feet represent 364 days and this is 65 periods of 5.6 days.
66 x 5.6 is 369.6 and x 1000/28 is 13200 the basis of the UK system, 13200 x 0.4 = 5280.
Unfortunately logging in to edu is not working for me so your paper is off limits at the moment.
cheers
Dave
