I'm not sure either. But I believe that the difference in the angle between any two points in the rainbow and moon bow would be proportional to the speed of light relative the moon's diameter. It might require a woman with four types of cones in her eyes to make the observation but the precision would be easily obtained. They should have been able to get it fairly close. Of course their estimate of the diameter of the moon might have been off.
