You are implying that a trained linguist is better adept at understanding physics than a librarian, disabled roofer, or a traffic cop.
I don't think it works this way. The reality is there are things known to science as found by experiment and anyone can understand the basics. Few people do understand the basics because they never actually check to see. Even Egyptologists could understand these basics and I'm sure some of them do.
There are only two ways to apply physics and math; correctly within its metaphysics, and absolutely wrong. A traffic cop can easily understand momentum and coefficient of friction or he can do his job without it. Egyptologists tend to do without it.
