I'm super late on this but had to read this entire string. Fascinating. Extreme food for thought.
I’m surprised it fits though. So many discussions and papers about placing it in during construction, I never assumed it could. What an oversight if its true. Such an obvious square peg in a square hole.
If it fits, then I like the idea much more that it lived there during operation really. Random box in KC felt so vague. And the analysis of that placement became too ethereal and leap’y to move past.
Now the wheels are really turning:
- Did it contain a catalyst material of some kind?
If not, then what advantage does the empty interior of a box a few inches different than the surrounding AC offer to the process?
- Was the catalyst material radioactive?
If not radio active, then why so much mass and density containing this process? So much about G1 speaks to containment of radioactive emissions as well as containment of a meltdown or worse explosion. Not to mention the associations of what the Serapeum boxes and the Arc of the Covanent speak to.
- If a catalyst, doesn’t that mean servicing and maintenace?
This is the big question. If the process included a catalyst in the sarcophagus then its highly unlikely it wouldn’t require access to remove, replace, etc. Whether it was secondary like spent catalyst or primary like an extracted fissionable isotope, it implies this system has to include access and safe maintenance procedures. Which brings brings me back to:
- Removable plugs
- AP’s complex geometric polygonal config is maybe just earthquake proofing
… and some new ones like:
- Box pushed into KC for servicing
- Maybe servicing in KC is most vulnerable point for potential explosion, hence relieving beams - absorption
- Portcullis blocks possibly drop down for containment during servicing in KC
- AC also for function like lowering control rods, or
- AC or KC functions include water cooling passing around the box
- KC shafts are for steam venting from heat process without venting radioactive contained in AC
- Mechanism in GG that both removes plugs and pushes box through
- Maybe removal of plugs breaks the cooling system seal and drains water for access
I could go on and on but I'll spare you..
