What's with the "nearly an inch" wider?
These tables show that the lower plug is 38.2" wide. Being a tight interference fit, is that not also the width of the lower AP?
The Coffer being 38.5".
A measured difference between plug and coffer of only 0.3".
A third of an inch being nowhere near "nearly an inch".
I'm not doubting he stated "nearly an inch", but why?
What was his best resolution?
