I'm still wondering where he got the 'Gaudy' from.
AE relief is simplistic in form
the statuary we have found at Giza is lifelike, again, not gaudy.
People throw around these adjectives as if they have a basis in reality.
There are cattle horns sticking out of some of the Buildings in Netjerikhet's enclosure
Columns that look like plants.
I don't see no stinkin' gaudy (homage to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre)
mayhap he talking about Tut's tomb, what's a millenia here or there...…
