A lot of the tracks are well above bedrock. Sandstone is very common in Anatolia. You can see loose sand on the sides of the road.
What about the single channels? And the channels that just stop or which disappear?
If these ruts were made by the compression caused by only a single vehicle into a viscous strata - where's the overburden? If these ruts were the result of continued excavation by a number of wheels - why so neat? Were all the wheels uniform?
