Something to this effect is always what I have thought, but the fact is as of now the oldest Ubaid sites, not by much and of course the dating could be off, are found in the South near the Persian Gulf. The Leyla-Tepe culture postdate the arrival of the Ubaid in the north, c. 6200BC, by almost 2,000yrs do they not?

The Maykop are of course even later dating to the 4th millennium.

This is interesting, but these do not solve the mystery of where the Ubaid originated from which as much as it has not been my thinking it may have been from the south beyond/around the Persian Gulf. There were known large migrations from the Caucasus to the southern regions c. 6,000BC but the Ubaid, supposedly, predate this by several centuries.
