I quoted myself from a response to you a month ago yet it took you this long to respond.
Regardless-you sure about that? Apparently that number is going down:
"According to Hawass, only 30 percent of Egypt's monuments have been uncovered, with the rest still under the sand."
> This comment was made by Hawass in a TV
> documentary on the pyramids.
> Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact wording.
We all know Hawass talks out of his ass and just makes up sensational numbers. I can give many quotes of him saying 90% of this or "90%" of that yet strangely none saying that "90% of Egyptian monuments are still undiscovered." I believe what he said is said is that "90% of Egypt" is still under the sand which I read another Egyptian official note that Hawass was specifically referring to artifacts. It was in a foreign newspaper interview and can't find the link again.
> Did you know that Hawass also once said that
> hundreds of mummies had been buried inside the
> Great Pyramid?
Apparently he has said a lot of things but whether or not he actually said them or if they are even true apparently we have little way of knowing beyond what someone "heard".
> I suggest that english language not being Hawass'
> first language is part of the problem here.
And he's a shameless promoter of himself and all things ancient Egyptian?
Its funny to me that Hawass is constantly vilified as being full of crap when it suits people yet when he gives a number people want to hear, even though it is obviously just made up, then all of a sudden he's an "expert". Whether 90% or 70%, or 50%, I am certain this number does not refer to exclusively to monumental architecture and as I said there is a lot that has been already discovered just not excavated which would be part of what is referred to.
> Now read the article at
> An article that adds some weight to Hawass'
> 'percent' remark.
No one doubt there is much yet to be discovered let alone further excavating what we've already found. I think we live in exciting times and hopefully they get to it sooner than later. But "90%"? Or even "70%"?
