IF.. those "advancements" were made of stone and survived the test of time.
We're only seeing the result with zero evidence of process.

    Fact is if Chris Dunn didn't have a precision straight edge, and knew how to use it, and knew what he was looking at, we wouldn't even recognise the achievement.

There seems to be little in the way of any attempt at an aesthetic. Straight lines and sharp angles, no decoration, curves are rare. Utilitarianism.

Hunter gatherers eventually developing into city cultures, inspired and making good use of what they see already existing around them.
Well at least the stone work because pretty much everything else has gone, disappeared, extinct, ceased to be, crumbled and corroded into atoms.
Therefore we can't find it even if we knew what we were looking for.
