A crushing material harder than granite rolled in a drum to produce crushed granite? I think you may be mistaken. Here is an example of a rock crushing machine (crushing granite): Jaw crusher.

And what would the point of this be if I do not think they made granite concrete let alone, if I imaged they did, that they would use diorite balls to make it?
Regardless, I don't know what the dolerite pounders were for but I am reasonably certain they were not used to make tool marks like these:

And what would be the point of quarrying this obelisk, as but one example, if they they could just as easily make a mold at the site and cast it?
