I don't understand the first picture. What are those figures at the bottom? Triangular shapes? V-shapes? ;-)
The second pic shows a seemingly straight block but it could also be a piece of wood or whatever, because there's also a ladder resting on it: If the stone was V-shaped it would be much safer to put something there first as a safe base for the ladder.
And there's also the possibility that this drawing is not the real situation at the time but an exaggeration. The pyramid looks too clean and new.
But I would give it the benefit of doubt that the Great Step might have been a normal stoneblock without a V.
I'm interested in more pictures, especially photos.
