mm not cm and yes it was polishing not machining.
As we eventually discovered.
Just polishing, the smoothing down of surface imperfections.
You do know the difference don't you?
You know polishing?
The smoothing down of the microscopic topography??
Polishing.. Making things nice and shiny.
As opposed to material removal.
Polishing the flattening of hills and valleys?
Nice and smooth, shiny..
Why is it that when polishing you get a good result quite quickly and then when that super shiny finish is achieved progress slows dramatically.??
why is that??
What happens when all the hills and valleys are no more?
Smooooth.
Not even flat, but smoooooth.
Is that what we're talking about?
So what's the difference between polishing and machining?
You should know, you're pretty good at polishing stuff aren't you..
I'm polishing a piece of red granite, not much progress I'm afraid, hills and valleys.
Have you ever tried polishing scratches out of car glass? Something everyone can try. Not easy.
I'll post a picture when I'm done.
