Not really, because in order to produce exactly fitting complex multi planar parts they would have first to design the model. It's just moving the problem from the block to the model of the block..
Which would require a three dimensional design protocol.
It's one thing carving a complex shape out of a single block but quite another replicating the interface with another block in the negative in order to ensure precise fit.
Which is why builders prefer flat interfaces and simple block interface profiles.
These guys obviously had a pressing need to avoid such regularity in critical applications.
