Sorry, Steve, Looks like my comment might have been nonsequiter. I was talking about leveling the foundation BEFORE laying any courses. Lehner's comment was that it is unlikely water was used to indicate a level plane during the construction of that plane since picking and chiseling within a pool of water makes the water muddy with rubble from the excavation work and is likely a non-starter. So by implication, the AEs didnt' use water as a means to establish horizontal work surface. about leveling the foundation BEFORE laying any courses. Lehner's comment was that it is unlikely water was used to indnicate a level plane during the construction of that plane

Hi Phil,

I think we are envisioning two different scenario. I'm thinking of stones which are chiselled down an accurate within 1/2"
You must be thinking of something entirely different, ie. accurate within 4"-8". That's like saying, the airplane didn't land on the runway, and then not say how the plane managed to land. I was also taking about >leveling the foundation BEFORE laying any courses. Lehner's comment was that it is unlikely water was used to indicate a level plane during the construction of that plane. No one is standing in a pool deeper than a few inches, as it evaporates.

Tell me then, how did they do it, and was it water tight. Did they let water drain down like a sieve into the Pyramids. Other than the lowest chamber in G1, is there water damage found throughout the surfaces, ie. mineral stains. I have never been inside to know for sure.
