I subscribe to the idea the Sphinx and associated limestone temples predate the 4th Dynasty, which I would include the bedrock base of G2 and the core structure of G3, possibly others structures like some of the mastabas. And even then this may not mean they were all built at the same time.

I am open to the possibility the Sphinx and temples may be even older than offered by Reader.

Is what we see at G2 "changes in plans" or just building a pyramid over the top of something that was already there? Saqqara and Meidum are notable known previous examples of such.

Just because some of these structures may have already been there does not mean the "master plan" idea is invalid as this master plan is the end result. To argue for one is not to argue against the other.
