This is why Egyptologists ASSUME it applied to the ancient Egyptians as well. It just seems logical that if all people today are superstitious then all people in ancient Egypt were.
I always believed this too. Imagine my surprise when I started understanding their thinking and writing and found they had no beliefs at all!!! I expected them to make perfect sense in terms of their beliefs and found they made perfect sense and had no beliefs!!!
I keep trying to tell you people changed. Language changed. The way people think changed. We are "homo omnisciencis because we each believe we have all the answers whether that's religion, science, or something else. Ancient people lacked beliefs and even lacked the words to express beliefs. The word "belief" is just as unattested as the word "ramp" or the idea that the great pyramids were tombs.

In the 1860's there were 10,000,000 surgeons who all believed that washing their hands before an operation was a waste of precious time. One person said "no" and if they washed their hands more of their patients would survive. He was outnumbered 10,000,000 to one and now life expectancy has gone from 50 to 80.

Reality is unaffected by votes. Reality exists outside of scientific models and religious beliefs. Reality exists outside of our ability to experience it directly. Only aspects of reality are disclosed through experiment or observation.

Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
