This was an intentional lie. A very tiny fraction of 1% of ancient Egypt has been excavated. They aren't even digging in ancient Egypt, they are digging in the cemeteries. They have probably identified less than 10% of the cemeteries.
They base their entire understanding of a culture on how they buried their dead and data gleaned from tombs. Then they pronounce the people superstitious and obsessed with death and tomb building! They are oblivious to problems caused by this methodology.
