The Nubian cultures are interesting on multiple fronts as at their earliest times they were contemporary with the forming of the Dynastic state (though I find the attribution of some artifacts to them and not the AE questionable) and towards the end oversaw a unique period of pyramid revivalism nearly 1000yrs after large pyramid building was abandoned in Egypt.
