It was just a quick sketch. Intended to show Steve Clayton the possibility of using formwork.
The wooden support would have been no wider than the narrow part of the pit.
Or the pit could have been infilled with sand. Slide the stone into position and then dig out the sand from underneath.
Or even place the stones and then excavate the pit out from underneath the stones.
The possibilities are endless.
None of which involve lifting. Zero lifting.. All lowering.
