To which we may add that of course they were careful. Archaeologists are the first people who’d notice signs of such a thing. Different phases of site development are commonplace. They deal with them all the time.
Not that the suggestion has any merit in this case. It tends to incoherence. People denied the ability to build pyramids are credited with extensive “restoration projects” which would entail much the same problems.
