I just don't agree with your closing statement:
The builder culture had no requirement to make artworks or visual representations of their activities. It wasn't in their culture.
No culture can have a culture of deliberately removing evidence of their existence. Such a statement would therefore question the entire field of archeology and its associative disciplines. I think saying such a thing is more a refusal to accept the responsibility of answering the question in the OP.
